Can you actually reverse search a video?
Not directly — no mainstream engine ingests a video file and matches it frame by frame. The method that works, and the one professionals use, is to pull one distinctive still out of the clip and reverse-image-search that frame. This tool does the extraction step in your browser so you get a clean, full-resolution frame instead of a blurry phone screenshot.
Why do I have to download the frame and then upload it?
Because a frame extracted on your own device has no public URL for a search engine to fetch. Engines accept either a URL or a file upload, so with a local frame the upload path is the only one available. It is two clicks, and the upside is that nothing about your video is ever sent to this page or to any server of mine — the extraction happens entirely in your browser.
Which frame should I pick?
The most visually distinctive one: a clear face, a landmark, a product, a logo, on-screen text, or an unusual background. Avoid motion blur, hard cuts, fades to black, and dark scenes. If the first frame returns nothing, try another from a different part of the clip — different frames genuinely return different results, which is why this tool grabs several at once.
Which engine finds the source of a video best?
Run more than one. TinEye is built to find exact copies and the earliest known appearance of an image, which is what you want for "where did this originally come from". Yandex is markedly better at faces and at the Russian and Eastern European web. Google Lens is strongest at identifying what is *in* the frame — a place, a product, a species. Bing sits between Lens and TinEye. Any single engine will miss things the others catch.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. This page has no backend. Your file is read through a local object URL, decoded by your own browser, and drawn to a canvas on your device. The frame you download is generated locally. The only moment anything leaves your machine is if you choose to upload the downloaded frame to Google, Bing, Yandex, or TinEye yourself, on their site.
It says my video cannot be decoded — why?
The tool relies on your browser's own video decoder, so it can only open formats that browser supports. MP4/H.264 and WebM work essentially everywhere. HEVC/H.265, some MKV variants, ProRes and raw camera formats often fail depending on browser and OS. Converting the clip to MP4 first, or opening it in a different browser, resolves nearly every case.
